This is our last chance to stop this $190 million Capping Fiasco from ruining our hard work on the Fox River PCB cleanup over the years.
The Fox River PCB cleanup will be the biggest river cleanup in the country. We need to set a good example, but so far the EPA and DNR are promoting the paper corporations' weakened proposal to simply cap more than half of the contaminated sediments in place rather than dredging them out or detoxifying them. This public forum has been organized by Congressman Steve Kagen, who is asking all the right questions. He is skeptical of capping and looking for better ways of addressing the PCB contamination problem. He has taken action in Congress which has temporarily stalled the capping proposal, which gives us an unexpected opportunity to repair the final plan. We need to show SUPPORT for his courage and leadership. The news media are being lobbied heavily by the corporations and agencies, so much of the media coverage has been negative towards the Congressman's efforts. (Particularly in the Green Bay Press Gazette.). We finally have an elected official who is more concerned about long-term public health and taxpayers' liabilities than protecting the corporations' bottom lines. Please
do attend --- this is important!
